PMK gets 31 seats from DMK

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) one of the member of DPA Alliance gets 31 seats to contest in the forthcoming 2006 TamilNadu Assembly Election. PMK Leader Dr. Ramdoss was discussing daily with DMK President & Tamil Nadu DPA Head M Karunanidhi for the past 1 week regarding seats for his party Pattali Makkal Katchi. It looks like he asked for 35 seats & was given only 23 before Vaiko 's Quit. And later when Vaiko joined AIADMK alliance, M Karunanidhi offered 28 to PMK. And after 4 visits to MK 's house, Dr Ramdoss made it to 31.

In 2001 assembly polls, PMK contested in 27 places & won 20 in alliance with the AIADMK. They got around 5.5% of the total votes. And in 2004 Lok Sabha polls, PMK won all the 5 allotted Parlimentary Constituency seats like other parties in Democratic Progressive Alliance.

Congress to contest in 48 places

Congress, the second largest party in DPA has been allotted 48 seats by DMK for this Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2006. Another MK (M Krishnasamy) the newly appointed president for TamilNadu Congress Committee (TNCC) & DMK Leader M Karunanidhi signed the agreement today.

Actually, people are thinking that 48 seats are more than expected for Congress from DMK. But it is not so. In the last 2001 TamilNadu Assembly Election there was Moopanar Congress, widely called as Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) & INC, and both parties allied with J Jayalalitha (AIADMK) and contested in 32 (TMC) + 14 (INC) Assembly Constituencies, totally 46. So, this is the first Assembly election the Congress is facing after the merger. Also, Mr. P Chidambaram 's Congress Jananayaka Peravai (CJP), mergered with Congres, which contested in DMK 's symbol in Purasaiwakam & Kattumanarkoil. So, we have to take like last time 45 & this time its just 48.

Congress, have a very goodname this time, since we have Dr. Manmohan singh the clean handed economist as PM, and his counsel of ministers like P Chidambaram, Jaipal Reddy have very good names in general. Also, people have a better feel than its predecessor BJP. So in my opinion, Congress is worth to have 60 , but as we know *beggars have no choice*

CPI was allotted 10 seats

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has been allotted 10 seats as part of the DMK led DPA front for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2006. Also, CPI is the first party in the front to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement with the DMK.

In 2001 assembly polls, CPI contested in 8 places & won 5 seats in alliance with the AIADMK. And in 2004 Lok Sabha polls, Communist Party of India won the 2 Parlimentary Constituency seats Tenkasi (SC) and Coimbatore, which was alloted by the DMK in DPA alliance.

An agreement to this effect was today signed by the state CPI secretary D Pandiyan and DMK President M Karunanidhi.

VAIKO (MDMK) joined AIADMK

for TN Assembly Election 2006

Amma offers 35

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) allied with Tamil Nadu's ruling All - India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assebly Election 2006. MDMK general secretary Vaiko met AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalitha at her Poes Garden residence here on Saturday and together they announced that the MDMK would contest 35 seats in the May 8 2006 Assembly elections.

So, as of now AIADMK Allies are :  MDMK (35 seats ) + DPI ( 9 seats )

It was also said that M Karunanidhi offered 22 seats to MDMK, indeed Vaiko asked for 25.

Vaiko said the AIADMK-led alliance would "sweep" the polls. "This is the finest hour in the political history of Tamil Nadu. The alliance is a formidable one".

But two weeks back, V Gopalasamy (Vaiko) said, "I was in the prison under Prevention of Terrorism Act for 19 months. MDMK is a movement full of self-respect. I will not give up self-respect at any cost." He also added, "We will fight till the end and will not knee down before anybody."

J Jayalalitha told press,  "We do not believe in turning back. We believe in looking at the future and the future is going to be glorious for the AIADMK and the MDMK." This is mainly said to make soft about VAIKO 's imprisonment for over 18 months under POTA.

Its is expected that Amma is waiting for Vijayakanth to get in. In that case it will be a big + for Amma ;-)

Also, Vaiko said, despite of  the electoral ties with the AIADMK, the MDMK would be part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in the centre.

Thirumavalavan(DPI)  join

hands with Jayalalithaa

DPI Bags 9 seats

Thirumavalavan, the Leader & Founder of Dalit Panther of India today joined AIADMK to face the forthcoming assembly election. It was an unexpected move, since he was very close to Dr. Ramadoss of PMK, who is in DPA - DMK alliance. It was said that DMK didn't afford any seat / rejected his plea in joining the DPA alliance. Also, the DMK President had recently said he had no objection if the PMK chose to give some seats to the DPI from its quota, and it was expected like that.

ADMK made an official announcement about the electoral alliance after DPI General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan called on ADMK Supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalitha at her Poes Garden residence this morning, and he was given 9 seats in TamilNadu & Ponicherry.

But DPI, who has less than 1% vote bank in the state, and nearly 10 - 20 % in areas like Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri etc., faced the General Election 2004 with Janata Dal - United. In Chidambaram Parliamentary constituency Thirumavalavan contested in the General Election 2004, and lost. But the best of all is : he is the person, who has got 2.6 Lac votes in 7.4 Lacs votes casted, which is very good, since he opposed both DMK lead DPA alliance & AIADMK alliance & made the BJP candidate to forfeit his deposit.

The DPI had contested on the DMK symbol in the 2001 Assembly election in 8 seats and won just 1. Thirumavalavan, who won on the DMK ticket, quit the alliance and gave up his seat in 2004. This is also being seen as one of the reasons for the DMK to turn the DPI away. But, Thirumavalavan issued several open invitations to the PMK ( Dr Ramadoss), who floated the 'Tamil Protection Movement' jointly with Mr Thirumavalavan to join him in a third front, which Ramadoss didn't accept.

As of now, DPI (Dalit Panther of India) is an unrecognized party in the state. So this is a good chance for DPI / Thirumavalavan to get RECOGNIZED.
