“ABN AMRO’s India chief Meera Sanyal is taking a sabbatical because she's joining the political fray, getting ready to contest from south Mumbai”

She has not put in her papers — she is only taking a sabbatical and will be back if she doesn’t win it. The company’s policy encourages bankers to fight elections but makes sure that the banker does not hold dual posts at the same time. ABN AMRO’s current GBM Head Madan Menon may take charge of Meera Sanyal’s post during her absence.

AIADMK didnt pull Congress

ADMK didnt call congress for any alliance. Amma did a big U turn

Few weeks back, Jayalalitha the AIADMK's Amma openly called Congress for her alliance.
But last week, the AIADMK leader, in a statement, said she had only cautioned the Congress not to get into the quicksand along with the DMK, which was facing the wrath of the people for its anti-people activities. Considering the long - time friendship between the AIADMK and the Congress and with good intention, she had advised the Congress to come out of the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa said, adding, ''I never invited the Congress to come back to the AIADMK alliance.''

Reason that can be : (Jayalalithaa Future plan)
As we know in the coming General Election 2009,  Congress and the BJP led NDA will have a tie in the centre, or none of them including the Third Front will not be able to come to power. And it is expected in TamilNadu, and ADMK alliance might get  20+ seats ie., 50% of 40 including pondy. If Jayalalitha is lucky - either PMK joins ADMK or DMDK(Vijayakanth) stays away from Congress/DMK then Jayalalitha's share in the 40 seats will increase to even 25 to 30.

In that case, she might use this to woo Congress as its life or death for them....

Azharuddin joins Congress

Azharuddin joins Congress

Spokesperson Veerappa Moily confirmed that former Indian cricket team captain, Azharudding is to join the Congress party. Moily said that he is joining the party unconditionally and it is not yet decided if he would contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls from Andhra Pradesh. Regarding the crickiter's troubles past(the life ban imposed by the BCCI), Moily said that there is no criminal record agains Azharuddin and whatever the matter is,its between the BCCI and him. He further justified Azhar's entry into congress by saying that Azhar served the Indian cricket team oustandingly for 9 years and that he has also filed a case against the ban imposed on him by BCCI. Trying to escape the situation on Sanjay Dutt's entry to samjawadi party, he said that he has no comments on that and Sanjay can join any party he wants to. According to earlier reports, Azhar is to meet congress chief Sonia Gandhi after which he might visit party headquarters and formally announce his entry to the party. Congress is likely to let Azhar play from his home ground Andhra. It is yet to see that how the former cricketer will fair in the new innings as a politician.

Will Congress tie up with Jayalalitha (AIADMK) ??

Jayalalithaa is suggesting Congress (INC) to come out of the DMK alliance which indirectly means shaking hands with AIADMK.

In her statement Jayalalitha said :

“Take back your hand (off DMK),” Jayalalithaa extolled to the Congress, punning on the word ‘hand’, also the latter’s poll symbol. Emphasising that a huge anti-incumbency factor stared at the DMK, Jayalalithaa claimed that the people were waiting to “teach the DMK a fitting lesson” in the coming polls. Hence, if Congress wished to avoid that scenario, “it should at once sever ties with DMK,” she asserted.

Congress is still a side dish in TamilNadu. If PMK also join hands with AIADMK then Jayalalitha alliance might sweep the 40 seats. Or atleast 35+ including Pondy. The whole of SouthIndia is on fire for Congress. Hopefully DMK wont allow this to happen and people like P Chidambaram etc are just Anti-JJ Congressmen.

Palaniappan Chidambaram gets Inland Security

the NEW HOME Minister

Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram was *promoted* as home minister in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks last week. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken the aditional responsibility of the Finance portfolio apart from the current three that he is holding: Coal, Environment and Forests, and Information and Broadcasting.

But for Mr Chidambaram, this internal Security is not new. In his profile, he already have some track records as a Minister of State for Internal Security. When asked how his second stint is different from his earlier one, Mr Chidambaram immediately remarked, “I am older. Whether I am wiser, you will say” he added, tongue firmly in cheek.

N-deal will happen, no timeline

ON BOARD AIR INDIA ONE: As the fate of the India-US nuclear deal hung in balance, the Manmohan Singh government Tuesday underlined its commitment to the deal, saying although there is no timeline, "it will happen eventually".

A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke with US president George W Bush on phone about difficulties in the way of the nuclear deal, minister of state for external affairs Anand Sharma batted for the deal.

He said it was in "the supreme national interest" and will end India's isolation from the global nuclear order, removing the decades-old technology denial regime.

"When it will happen, I can't say. But I can say with conviction that India's return to international nuclear cooperation and the removal of the restriction regime is in the supreme national interest," Sharma told reporters accompanying the Prime Minister on his visit to South Africa.

He was replying to a question whether the government has any timeline for operationalising the nuclear deal.

"Eventually, it will happen," Sharma said in a mid-air press conference. In yet another indication that compulsions of coalition politics have forced the government to put the nuclear deal on hold, Sharma hinted that even if it were not to happen in the near future, India will not give up its larger quest for global nuclear integration.

"India will continue to seek full integration in the global nuclear mainstream," he said.

The nuclear deal, Sharma said, was an integral part of India's emergence as a major power on the global stage.

"India is an emerging power, acknowledged universally. In this chapter of India's renaissance, its isolation from the global nuclear mainstream will hurt," he said.

The government has pressed the pause button for the nuclear deal after the Left parties threatened to withdraw their crucial support if it went ahead with operationalising the agreement.

"It is not a single issue government. It will last its full term," said Sharma, hinting that the nuclear deal was slated for a long haul.

Kanimozhi the Next Blood Connection from Madras to New Delhi

Kanimozhi, D/o of M Karunanidhi - Next Blood Connection from Madras to New Delhi

As the final act of the sordid family drama that pitted M Karunanidhi's family against the Marans, costing Dayanidhi Maran his central Cabinet berth, the DMK on Saturday named the party president's daughter Kanimozhi as the DMK nominee for the June 15 RS elections in Tamil Nadu

- Times of India

DMK Chief M Karunanidhi always had someone closely related to him posted in NewDelhi, to have a strong & trustful message passer between him (Madras) and the Central Govt. (Delhi)

For nearly 30+ years he had Murasoli Maran, his Nephew in Delhi as a Central Minister or atleast a Rajya Sabha MP. After his death, he posted Dhayanidhi Maran, Marans' son in that place.

After the Maran Sent out Drama, as expected Karunanidhi is making Kanimozhi [D/o to Rajathi(his third Wife)], who is equally lovable like Selvi(daughter through his Second Wife Dhayalu) is going to become Rajya Sabha MP.

May be after a week, she will become the Minister of State of Commerce or something similar to this porfolio.

Marans and the DMK issue

Poor Maran

sillar Alluvaar, sillar serippar - naan sirithu kondae Azhikindrein

It seems, the Kiddy Maran sent his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. DMK (thi Moo Ka - Thiru Mu Karunanidhi) has to decide as the Party functionaries have given the DMK Chief MK the power to do anything on this issue.

There is a chance that the young Maran might survive in the cabinet still.

Reasons for the Chance for his survival :

  1. Marans' Paternal grandma was the one who brought up M Karunanidhi - to my surprise she is still alive (may be 90+ yrs old) she might support Maran (s) as they all live together.
  2. No bad remarks in his career, though its not even a year old - NEWS source reveal that PM wants MK not to disturb the cabinet
  3. He is the one of the richest person in the country - it might sound bullshit - But my dears think what will happen to DMK after MKarunanidi s' death ?? he can buy all the people in the DMK

I really felt pity on him when he/his Media group published the so called  opinion poll based on peoples' vote saying he is the best Cabinet Minister from the State (Tamilnadu). May be he thinks the Finance Mininster P Chidamabaram is doing nothing....

Tamila sollanumna - enna Chinna pulla thanamaa irrukku ?

Atlast, if im not wrong he showed us & his grandpa MK that he is still a kid in the political block.

I personally feel that he can remain in the ministry - the main reason is there is no better replacement for him in the DMK MP s' free pool (software field la sollum na - bench la nalla allunga yaarum illa)

Check Google News for latest news on this hot, interesting, turning point issue.

When KR Vijaya can act as amman, why cant Khushboo act as Mrs Periyar ??

There is this controversy over the ‘Periyar’ movie. It seems Khushboo was supposed to act as the wife of periyar. But then, PMK opposed this decision saying ‘Khushboo spoke ill of tamilians. So she must not act in this movie’. And this issue was raised in the Tamilnadu assembly. WOW!

Though by birth she is a muslim, she married a Hindu ‘C.Sundar’. So she is not a secular actor. My suggestion is make Mumtaj the heroine of movie Periyar. She hasnt spoken anything bad about TN, and is a minority too. One stone two mango ;-)

Sayaji shinde acted as bharathiyar without knowing a single word of tamil, and he did a wonderful job. What has the actors background or personal life got to do with the role he or she is enacting? When KR Vijaya can act as amman, why cant khushboo act as Mrs Periyar? idhu dhaan paguthaRivaa?

Source : Prabhu

Even I support this - why these PMK people is always trying to bring something or the other to the Cine stars ? Even M Karunanidhi was a Core - Cinema guy long back.  If PMK claims that people from Cine field must not enter politics, then they must not tie up with either  DMK or AIADMK, since both the leaders of those parties had a strong career in Cinema. Will PMK / Dr. Ramdoss think like that ?

Only thing is they want to come in the News in any form. Thats all.

HOW LONG CAN INDIA KEEP QUIET ON LANKA VIOLENCE ?

After more than four years of relatively calm environment, the situation in Srilanka has gone back to "square 1". All the efforts of Norway mediated peace talks seems to be going in vein. Both the parties have got a new reason to break the ceasefire, the control of 'Maavil Aaru' reservoir. Srilankan forces resorted to airstrikes to open up the LTTE blocked sluice gates of water canal, which is the source of irrigation for srilanka troops controlled downstream areas.

Both the parties are blaming each other and have put the Norway mediated Feb 2002 ceasefire agreement into backburner.

The worst and most recent of all is the Srilankan airforce bombing an orphanage in Tigers controlled area, which LTTE claims to have killed 61 children and the Tigers repulsive attack on Pakistan High Commissioner convoy in columbo.
Last week, 15 people working for the French humanitarian agency, 'Action Against Hunger' were killed in Muttur because of Lankan military bombings. And the list continues ....

The fighting in last two weeks alone have displaced more than 30000 innocent civilians in the area. This also leads a huge influx of refugees into India. There is nothing worse than to live as refugees in their own home land. Even many risk their lives to cross over to Tami Nadu as refugees. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) has urged those planning on making

T Rajendar back to DMK

T Rajendar, a Tamil Cine Actor who used to Direct, Produce, Compose Songs & Music & act as a HERO in a movie with his own Screenplay & Story is all along with DMK for nearly 2 decades. But he used to take rest by going out of DMK for a while & coming back. Like in 1991 he left DMK & started a new political party called Thayga Marumalarchi Kazhagam before the TamiNadu Assembly Election 1991 along with  K K S S R R Ramachandran and Thirunavukarasu.

But the party Thayga Marumalarchi Kazhagam had an electoral alliance with DMK and contested in 11 constituencies in which the party leaders  K K S S R R Ramachandran and Thirunavukarasu won in Sattur & Arantangi, whereas T Rajendar our HERO lost his victory to J Jayalalitha, the AIADMK general secretary in Bargur.

And after joining DMK in 1996, he was given a chance to contest in Park Town in madras, where his margin exceeded by 30,000 with the runner.

And in 2001 Election to the state Assembly he lost his seat to SG Viayagamoorthy of TMC in the same constituency. And after he was not that much active in politics, and in 2004 he again moved out of DMK, starting a party called Laktchiya DMK. Then he joined amma, and started talking ill of M Karunanidhi.

Once he said :  "Alli kodupadhu Amma,  killi kooda kodukkadhavar Karunanidhi " when he was with J Jayalalitha. And it was said that he asked for 10 seats & JJ offered him only 2. And immediately he quit the AIADMK alliance & joined DMK.

And yesterday I saw his speech in SUN TV, where he mentioned Vaiko as a pyshco , " ea VAIKO nee oru psycho, adhanaala nee veliya Poi ko" etc., He is famous for this Rhyming words (Sonnet kinda language) he uses, but I feel there is no motive/any goal he has set to achieve in his political career.(Even others don't, but they pretend to show

DMDK Vijayakanth gets Murasu Symbol

Vijayakanth (DMDK) gets Murasu Symbol

For the forthcoming TamilNadu Assembly Election 2006, Vijayakanth gets Murasu symbol for his party in most of the places. This is the first time, DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kalagam) is going face the election, that too in a tough period.

After the party (DMDK) being formed, he was in tour, covering the most places. And now he could have covered every bit of TamilNadu. But I feel its a wrong idea of his, to contest in Virudhachalam constituency. The best said reason was some of his last(latest) movie was not played in the cinema halls in Virudachalam area, due to PMK. But PMK is very strong in Virudachalam, with a vote bank of 30+ % alone, so now adds the DMK & Congress have a combined votebank of 30, which gives PMK 60+. So, what is Vijayakanth 's plan to break this ??

Let us pray atleast one Murasu to enter the Assembly!! (Hope his party gets atleast one MLA) Captain Vijayakanth MLA !!! Let the DRUM not get beaten up by others!!!

ADMK 's P C Ramasamy denied ticket in Modakurichi

AIADMK PC Ramasamy

In the last minute, sitting MLA of Modakurichi & the Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments was given seat to contest in the forthcoming TamilNadu Assembly election 2006 in the same constituency was taken over, suddenly he (P. C. Ramasamy) was replaced by V. P. Namasivayam.

Modakurichi Assembly constituency had 1033 contestants in 1996 TamilNadu Assembly Election. Result was like there was some contestants bagging 0 votes. So, I hope this is a world record, may be like no one could have checked it!!! So few people are aware of this constituency, which is in Erode District. The current Minister of State Ms. Subbu Lakshmi Jegadeesan, was the DMK contestant in 1996, and she was elected to power. And in 2001 Assembly election, Subbu Lakshmi Jegadeesan lost in the same contituency to P C Ramasamy of AIADMK.

And in 2004 General Election DMK President M Karunanidhi placed her as Parliamentary Constituent contestant, and she won. DMK has a strong hold in this Modakurichi Constituency from 80 's. But this time, I don't know why DMK have given this place to Congress, which fields Palanisamy(hopefully a supporter of EVKS Elangovan).

Along with PC Ramasamy of Modakurichi Constituency, J Jayalalitha have replaced the Palani Constituency candidate R Tamilarasi by S Prema.

AC No AC Name New Candidate Old Candidate
118 Modakurichi Palanisamy P C Ramasamy
  129 Palani S. Prema Tamilarasi

The updated AIADMK Candidate list for Assembly Election 2006 is here.

Update :

AIADMK lost Modakurichi Constituency to Palanisamy, a congress Candidate in 3860 votes.

Sarathkumar joins ADMK

Sarathkumar joins Admk

Well known Tamil Cine actor and DMK Rajya Sabha MP, R Sarath Kumar, resigned from the primary membership of the DMK party a week back. And now he joined the AIADMK in the presence of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in Theni. Also his wife and famous Cine Actress Radhika joined in ADMK.

Last week when he sent a resignation letter to the DMK chief M Karunanidhi, he was silent about his MP Post. So I was concluding like, after elections he may re-join the party. Also, many programmes hosted in Sun TV(also in the whole Sun Network) was produced by Radaan TV, which is owned by Radhika. So we came to a conclusion that, they won't move from DMK.

But, Elango a friend of mine told me that he is getting ready to join AIADMK, which I considered as a rumour, but it happened.

Sarathkumar said, "After hectic consultations with fans, people in close circles and the public, I have taken this decision. It might be a delayed one. But the decision was final."

Sarathkumar had joined the DMK in 1998, and in the same year he contested for the Lok Sabha from Tirunelveli Parliamentary Constituency and lost his victory to ADMK candidate in just 6900 votes(1.5%)

The main reason could be :

1. Sarathkumar could have asked a seat for Radhika in the coming TamilNadu Assembly Election 2006, that too in some particular constituency where his caste have a upper hand.

2. Previously it was said (mostly a rumour) that they had some problem with Maran family (Sun Network) since many of their TV serials in Tamil is just dubbed to other channels in the languages like Telugu, Malayalam & Kannada. And Radhika was asking for some more money etc.,

3. In my view, if AIADMK comes to power this time, DMK can't come to power in future. So, the couples planned and quit. May be also they might have some problems with someone strong in DMK!!

Vaiko Vs SUN TV

A Month back, Vaiko join hands with ADMK to face the TamilNadu Assembly Election 2006. Before that he was in UPA which was led by DMK in Tamil Nadu. As there is only one month left for election, hot campaigning is going on in most places in TamilNadu.

M Karunanidhi & his Nephew Maran & family have many TV channels(Sun Network), Print Media & FM Radio licenses. The list of them are :

TV Networks : SunTV, KTV, Sun Music, Sun News, SuryaTV, KiranTV, GeminiTV, TejaTV, AdithyaTV,Teja News, UdayaTV, UsheTV, Udaya2 & Udaya News.

FM Radio : Suryan FM - Chennai,  Suryan FM - Coimbatore, Suryan FM - Tirunelveli  & Vishaka FM. (4) + its said that they have license to operate in 20 places.

Print Media :  Dailies :    Dinakaran & Tamizh Murasu  Other Magazines : Kungumum, Mutharam, Vannathirai, Kumguma Chimizh. And they have some more in Other languages too.

Its started like, VAIKO few weeks back commented that DMK Chief M Karunanidhi is holding more than 50% of the media in South India which is not fair etc.,
But its true. Even once I have read somewhere that they have a market share of 66% in daily TV viewers category.

Since after he left DMK Led UPA, he started commenting DMK & its President M Karunanidhi, which is normal since every political leader who quits one alliance & joins another do the same. The issue started of when he started pouring words about Karunanidhi 's TV network & the other group of Media.

Suddenly, yesterday (02 April 2006) in Sun TV News they were questioning VAIKO that why he(VAIKO)didn't try to bring to people 's notice that Sun TV group has got these things, while he was in DMK Led DPA alliance ??

Also there was a solid 5 minutes listing of all BigB s in the world media (starting from Times in US, till Zee TV in India) in the SUN TV News explaining that each of the companies have Dailies, Magazines & TV Channels, they meant like :not only SUN TV & group have a foot in all kind of News & Information Media, even others have more than what they have,  whiich is highly acceptable.

But onething they have CONCEALED in that News is none of the media group (owners / controllers) other than SUN TV & group is in Politics, raw POLITICS. Everyone must accept this, even you can't say NO to yourself!

MK lists the break up of DPA member s' Constituency

DMK President & TN DPA Leader M Karunanidhi, lists the break up of DMK & other DPA members constituencies. As said before, Congress has been allotted 48 seats, PMK 31, CPI (M) 13, CPI 10, and IUML 3.

The term for the Tamil Nadu Assembly is going to expire this 21st May 2006, so Election Commission of India announced the elections to TamilNadu & other states whose term is also expiring viz., Assam, Kerala, West Bengal & Pondicherry. From that time, the Big B in the TN politics where busy. And, last week Dr. M Karunanidhi finalized the seats for the other DPA member parties like Congress (INC), CPI, CPM & PMK.

This evening, DMK releases Constituency - wise break up of the DPA parties. As said before DMK i going to contest in 129 places only, for majority they have to get ( 234/2 = 117) + 1  i.e,118. The turn out ratio for DMK to form a majority government is 118/129*100 which is 91.74 %. Getting 91.74% is impossible, so there is only a possibility of a Coalition government, if and only if DMK alliance gets the *majority* than AIADMK alliance.

Sonia resigns as Lok Sabha MP

Sonia Gandhi

Congress (INC) President & UPA Chairman Sonia Gandhi has resigned as Member of Parliament (MP). In 2004 General Election to Lok Sabha, she contested from Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh), opposing Ashok Kumar of Samajwadi Party, and captured the seat with 2.5 Lac vote difference.

"With several people trying to portray the ordinance as a move to protect me, I have decided to step down as the Member of Parliament and I hope my constituency understands and respects my move," said Sonia Gandhi, while addressing a press conference.

But, she made it clear that she would again contest from Rae Bareli.

Her full speech to the Press People :

For the last two days, some people have been trying to create an atmosphere as if the government and parliament
are being used to favour me. This has hurt me very much.

I have stated it earlier also that I am in politics and public life not for my selfish ends.I have taken a pledge to serve
the people of the country and to protect the secular ideals. So, in keeping with my public life and political principles and
according to my own belief, I resign as member of Lok Sabha and chairperson of National Advisory Council.

I have full faith that brothers and sisters of Rae Bareli and the whole nation will understand this feeling of mine.

I have been dragged into a needless controversy.

I hope people in Rae Bareli will understand me.

Seat sharing : TN Election 2006

As TamilNadu Assembly term is going to expire this May 2006, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced date for conducting polls in the state. Since then, all the major parties in TamilNadu were busy in negotiating seats with their allies. Unexpectedly Vaiko, join hands with AIADMK to face the TN Assembly election 2006, and others are as usual. But still BJP & Vijayakanth 's stance is not clear, since the two parties announced that they are going to face the election alone, making the 4 axial competition viz., AIADMK, DMK Led UPA, BJP & Vijayakanth 's DMDK. There is more than a month so there is a possibility of BJP joining AIADMK led alliance.

Stance : BJP & Vijayakanth (DMDK)

On March 01 of this month, Election Commission announced the Polling Date for the TamilNadu Assembly Election 2006. Since then, the major political parties are settling with their alliance & seat sharing talks with their Allies. And on today, most of the parties are getting ready to prepare the list of candidates for the May 2006 Tamil Nadu Assembly Election. But Bharathiya Janatha Party(BJP) & Vijayakanth 's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) says, they want to contest on their own.

For BJP which was a ally of DMK in 2001 TN Assembly Election, contested in 21 places & captured 4 seats to the Assembly and got around 3.2 % of total polled votes. And in 2004 Lok Sabha Election it was voted out of power from the central cabinet ministery & also in TamilNadu they tied-up with ruling AIADMK & lost all the 6 seats and got a total of 4 % of  polled votes. So their total  weightage will not be more than 5%. So, if they contest in all 234 seats, they will get only 2 to 3 seats to the maximum. And take Vaiko(MDMK) for example in 2001 TN Assebly Election, they lost all the 214 contested seats & even forfeited the deposits in 205 places with around 5.6% of polled votes. No one expected it & even I thought that they will get around 3 to 5 seats. So, in my view its not advisable for BJP to contest alone. Else if they joins AIADMK, Chief Minister of TamilNadu & AIADMK Head J Jayalalitha will allot not more than 25 seats. And in that, BJP can win 10 seats to the maximum, something is better than nothing!!

But for Vijayakanth 's DMDK the issues are different. For them it is the first election, & the party have only one plus point is that "karuppu MGR" Vijayakanth. In 100 % of the total voters in TamilNadu,  60% & are lower class people & 30% are from Middle class & 10% are from upper middle class & above. As a popular cine actor Vijayakanth 's total members in his all Fan club competes with that of Rajinikanth, the Super Star of Tamil Cinema & dazzling icon of the indian cine industry. In total voters, there is a possibility of karuppu MGR to get around 10% in which lower class people votes comprises 6-7% and other 2% each. Actually this vote bank is just a theoretical one,  which was given by many Tamil Magazines. But, the mass gathering happened on his party opening ceremony was so much, which is still happening in all his tours, so that can be true. So, we can't say exactly, how much votebank he has, and I feel, that his votebank is mainly taken from DMK & PMK. Still Vijayakanth says that he want to contest alone, but anything may happen!!!

But, as told by magazines, DMDK has a vote bank of 10%, which when contest alone can get 15 seats to the maximum. May be like, they can avoid losing deposits in 70 assembly constituency thats all.

BJP & DMDK (Vijayakanth) together ?

News are coming that BJP is talking with DMDK for alliance & so there is also a possibility that they can join. But for Vijayakanth, it is better he can join J Jayalalitha led AIADMK alliance or to contest alone. If he join hands with BJP, then he can't blame all political parties in general, since his ally is also a Major political party. And if he contest alone, he can campaign like  : none of the parties are doing great, so give us a change or something like that. But either way he can get a maximum of 15 - 20 seats, which is also considered to be very high.

PMK gets 31 seats from DMK

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) one of the member of DPA Alliance gets 31 seats to contest in the forthcoming 2006 TamilNadu Assembly Election. PMK Leader Dr. Ramdoss was discussing daily with DMK President & Tamil Nadu DPA Head M Karunanidhi for the past 1 week regarding seats for his party Pattali Makkal Katchi. It looks like he asked for 35 seats & was given only 23 before Vaiko 's Quit. And later when Vaiko joined AIADMK alliance, M Karunanidhi offered 28 to PMK. And after 4 visits to MK 's house, Dr Ramdoss made it to 31.

In 2001 assembly polls, PMK contested in 27 places & won 20 in alliance with the AIADMK. They got around 5.5% of the total votes. And in 2004 Lok Sabha polls, PMK won all the 5 allotted Parlimentary Constituency seats like other parties in Democratic Progressive Alliance.

Congress to contest in 48 places

Congress, the second largest party in DPA has been allotted 48 seats by DMK for this Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2006. Another MK (M Krishnasamy) the newly appointed president for TamilNadu Congress Committee (TNCC) & DMK Leader M Karunanidhi signed the agreement today.

Actually, people are thinking that 48 seats are more than expected for Congress from DMK. But it is not so. In the last 2001 TamilNadu Assembly Election there was Moopanar Congress, widely called as Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) & INC, and both parties allied with J Jayalalitha (AIADMK) and contested in 32 (TMC) + 14 (INC) Assembly Constituencies, totally 46. So, this is the first Assembly election the Congress is facing after the merger. Also, Mr. P Chidambaram 's Congress Jananayaka Peravai (CJP), mergered with Congres, which contested in DMK 's symbol in Purasaiwakam & Kattumanarkoil. So, we have to take like last time 45 & this time its just 48.

Congress, have a very goodname this time, since we have Dr. Manmohan singh the clean handed economist as PM, and his counsel of ministers like P Chidambaram, Jaipal Reddy have very good names in general. Also, people have a better feel than its predecessor BJP. So in my opinion, Congress is worth to have 60 , but as we know *beggars have no choice*

CPI was allotted 10 seats

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has been allotted 10 seats as part of the DMK led DPA front for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2006. Also, CPI is the first party in the front to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement with the DMK.

In 2001 assembly polls, CPI contested in 8 places & won 5 seats in alliance with the AIADMK. And in 2004 Lok Sabha polls, Communist Party of India won the 2 Parlimentary Constituency seats Tenkasi (SC) and Coimbatore, which was alloted by the DMK in DPA alliance.

An agreement to this effect was today signed by the state CPI secretary D Pandiyan and DMK President M Karunanidhi.

VAIKO (MDMK) joined AIADMK

for TN Assembly Election 2006

Amma offers 35

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) allied with Tamil Nadu's ruling All - India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assebly Election 2006. MDMK general secretary Vaiko met AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalitha at her Poes Garden residence here on Saturday and together they announced that the MDMK would contest 35 seats in the May 8 2006 Assembly elections.

So, as of now AIADMK Allies are :  MDMK (35 seats ) + DPI ( 9 seats )

It was also said that M Karunanidhi offered 22 seats to MDMK, indeed Vaiko asked for 25.

Vaiko said the AIADMK-led alliance would "sweep" the polls. "This is the finest hour in the political history of Tamil Nadu. The alliance is a formidable one".

But two weeks back, V Gopalasamy (Vaiko) said, "I was in the prison under Prevention of Terrorism Act for 19 months. MDMK is a movement full of self-respect. I will not give up self-respect at any cost." He also added, "We will fight till the end and will not knee down before anybody."

J Jayalalitha told press,  "We do not believe in turning back. We believe in looking at the future and the future is going to be glorious for the AIADMK and the MDMK." This is mainly said to make soft about VAIKO 's imprisonment for over 18 months under POTA.

Its is expected that Amma is waiting for Vijayakanth to get in. In that case it will be a big + for Amma ;-)

Also, Vaiko said, despite of  the electoral ties with the AIADMK, the MDMK would be part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in the centre.

K A Sengottaiyan - Come Back Kid

After his defeat in 1996 TamilNadu Assembly election, KA Sengottaiyan the Ex - Transport Minister was facing may problems due to corruption charges filed against him. Even once he was sentenced to four years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh.

But after 2001 Election results, the charges against him was becoming weak. And in Feb 18 this year, the court acquitted him in all charges.

He was also visible in many AIADMK ceremonies in the past 2 years. And now he is one of the member in the Team formed by J Jayalalitha to talk to ADMK allies regarding seat sharing.

K A Sengottaiyan contested from Gobichettipalayam Assembly Constituency in 1991 and was selected as a MLA, and once in 1996 he lost. Due to the charges, he couldn't contest in 2001 Assembly election as well.

I believe, Mr. Sengottaiyan will contest in Gobichettipalayam Constituency this 2006 Assembly election.

Update :  As expected Mr. KA Sengottaiyan, Ex - Transport Minister is going to contest in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2006 from Gobi Assembly Constituency, which is also his native. His name was listed in the AIADMK candidate list.

Thirumavalavan(DPI)  join

hands with Jayalalithaa

DPI Bags 9 seats

Thirumavalavan, the Leader & Founder of Dalit Panther of India today joined AIADMK to face the forthcoming assembly election. It was an unexpected move, since he was very close to Dr. Ramadoss of PMK, who is in DPA - DMK alliance. It was said that DMK didn't afford any seat / rejected his plea in joining the DPA alliance. Also, the DMK President had recently said he had no objection if the PMK chose to give some seats to the DPI from its quota, and it was expected like that.

ADMK made an official announcement about the electoral alliance after DPI General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan called on ADMK Supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalitha at her Poes Garden residence this morning, and he was given 9 seats in TamilNadu & Ponicherry.

But DPI, who has less than 1% vote bank in the state, and nearly 10 - 20 % in areas like Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri etc., faced the General Election 2004 with Janata Dal - United. In Chidambaram Parliamentary constituency Thirumavalavan contested in the General Election 2004, and lost. But the best of all is : he is the person, who has got 2.6 Lac votes in 7.4 Lacs votes casted, which is very good, since he opposed both DMK lead DPA alliance & AIADMK alliance & made the BJP candidate to forfeit his deposit.

The DPI had contested on the DMK symbol in the 2001 Assembly election in 8 seats and won just 1. Thirumavalavan, who won on the DMK ticket, quit the alliance and gave up his seat in 2004. This is also being seen as one of the reasons for the DMK to turn the DPI away. But, Thirumavalavan issued several open invitations to the PMK ( Dr Ramadoss), who floated the 'Tamil Protection Movement' jointly with Mr Thirumavalavan to join him in a third front, which Ramadoss didn't accept.

As of now, DPI (Dalit Panther of India) is an unrecognized party in the state. So this is a good chance for DPI / Thirumavalavan to get RECOGNIZED.

Karti Chidambaram

Karti Chidambaram, son of P Chidambaram the Finance Minister of India is a vivid person and a successful businessman. Unlike other politicians, Palaniappan Chidambaram, the finance Minister came from a well knowm family (Karaikudi chettiyars) and so Karti Chidambaram the heir is having the emphasis wherever he goes!!  Family Genealogy.

Karti Chidambaram did his schoolings in Don Bosco, Madras. and he went to Austin (University of Texas), where he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. And later he jumped to England to get a degree in Law from Cambridge University.

Besides his busy schedule Karthik Chidambaram, plays Tennis daily & has won many tournaments. And I believe that is a very good cricketer too. Coming from a good business minded family, Karti Chidambaram runs his own business like Chess Management Service, a legal advisory firm and a website called Myvakil.com and many more.

Sometime back, he started a website called Karuthu.com & Sujatha, the well known writer, officially inaugurated the website in which any one can express their views on any topic.

"Karti was campaign manager for his father who fought and won the parliamentary seat of Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu this May.Despite being out of electoral politics for several years, Chidambaram senior won from this constituency convincingly.Karti's bright ideas led to a well-conducted campaign with audio-visual techniques, through which people got to hear tapes of favourite songs, both old and the latest, mixed pleasantly with campaign messages", from OnlyPunjab.com

Like his father, P Chidambaram, Karti is also interested in Politics from his twenties. He describes himself as an active Congress worker and he was cited by many medias' for his movement with all types of workers in the party as well as with the public. Karti Chidambaram is expected to get some posts in the TamilNadu Congress Committee(TNCC) soon.

Karti on his father, P Chidambaram

Karti Palaniappan Chidambaram is fast talking, quick thinking and wants passionately to change India. In that he's his father's son, the Chidambarams' only child.

Karti s' sense of humour is all his own. He's clearly been brought up as a distinct personality and does not shy away from differing from his father, so the senior Chidambaram has got that right!

"He" is the finance minister.

Is he a strict or a lenient father?

He is very strict but has always given me tremendous freedom and leeway.

He said once that he has never and would never raise his hand at his child.

That is absolutely true, he has never raised his hand... Read More in Rediff
