Few days back Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam joined DMK alliance for contesting in the TamilNadu Assembly Election 2011 and secured 7 seats. I would say this is a very good number for a new small – unrecognized party. Lot of news source confirms that they preffered to join AIADMK alliance, but J Jayalalitha didn’t respond properly.
Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam contested in 12 Parliamentary constituency in the last General elections to the parliament (2009). Even though they didn’t win anywhere, they got a considerable amount of votes in their *main belt* which is widely called as Kongu Belt viz, Coimbatore, Tiruppur , Pollachi & Erode(of course there are lot of Kongu Vella Gounders present in Namakkal & Karur – but a part of this constituency can only be considered in Kongu belt – but exactly there is no map for kongu belt though !) Almost all of the MLAs, MPs, in the kongu belt regardless of the Party are from Kongu Vellala Gounder community.
In all the four Parliamentary Constituencies (Coimbatore, Tiruppur , Pollachi & Erode) – DMK alliance in the 2009 Parliament Election lost its victory and the main reason considered is because of KMK. *But* when we see the results of previous elections mostly AIADMK had upper hand. Apart from Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam(KMK), DMDK is also equally strong in kongu belt. Coimbatore & Niligris area have considerable amount of Congress supporters and MDMK(which is broken now) *and* Communist !
I would say, DMDK, Communists and KMK have equal share in Coimbatore & Tiruppur. Well, AIADMK have major share though After the 1999 Coimbatore bomb blast BJP got a great chance to grow, but CPR (CP Radhakrishnan) falied to make any attempt to grow BJP, instead he attended all marriages and death rituals !! He is also from the same Kongu Vellala Gounder community. So, KMK is not the sole reason for DMK’s Loss. But to defeat or to equate DMDK’s vote bank, DMK for sure needs KMK.
Election 2011 Results Forecast for Kongu Belt
All these are calculated with the past election results - supporting DMK. Also, anti incumbency wave of DMK is not considered and if we calculate it as 10%, DMK will not get more than 3 seats in the kongu belt and if its more than 20%, then DMK alliance will not get any seats in this region - so KMK's support helps them to try hard to get few seats in the 24 assembly seats and nothing much...
So, its not necessary for JJ amma to talk to KMK !!
